Lunch offerings at Black History Month luncheon: fried chicken/fish, collards, black eyed peas, mac-n-cheese, cornbread, pecan pie, and peach cobbler.
Offerings that did not include dead animals: mac-n-cheese, cornbread, pecan pie, and peach cobbler.
So, basically my lunch plate resembled the preferences of a 5 year old.

Me: Carter, what was your favorite part of the day?
C: School.
Me: Oh? What part of school?
C: Just school.
Me: What do you like about school?
C: I just like school. I'm not sure why.

The Thin Mints are almost gone. If they were Thick Mints, I would eat fewer of them. (Stick with me here people, this is new math!) The fact that they’re almost gone is good cause to look up methadone clinics on Google Maps, before I get my Jennifer Jason Leigh on. I imagine, though, that the dog has already claimed the Thin Mint crumbs from the carpet, and so I need a backup plan....

“MONEYBALL!!!”
“HUGO?”
“I hope it’s Moneyball!”
“Where’s Brad Pitt?”
“HUGO AGAIN?”
“What are The Muppets?”
“HUGO?!!”
“MONEYBALL!”
“Is that Brad Pitt?”
“MONEYBALL? MONEYBALL? MONEYBALL?”

Are you going to need to take your bicycles? I’ll be taking my bicycles.

That’s a nice guitar. Do you want to sell it? No, I don’t need to sell my things.

everything is fine
I dislike it when I am grumpy. I don’t like to project rageface out into the universe. I like my sighs bottled and canned, carefully shelved, or perhaps rinsed and recycled. Airing my dirty laundry goes against some pseudo-Protestant suburbia ethic that I learned while being the “everything is fine, just fine” player in my prototypical dysfunctional nuclear family. Everything is...
you guys are all pretty neat. <3

The saga of my cousin continues. It’s not crack, it’s meth. IV. Oh, and a daily pint of Pov Pov. Supposedly she just started shooting up when her love-of-her-life boyfriend introduced her to it, and of course he shoots her up in some cosmic act of luv. She’s an episode of Intervention, but without the cameras, and with a side of cancer. 6cm of cancer raging inside her tit....

I have many things to say, but only seven minutes to say them, so I will have to hope that things in my cabesa are still around next time I have time to sit and write. My day is all stacked up transactionally, though there are uncertain outcomes on a couple of things. To be more middle managementy or not, that is the question. And then to run about town, errands so many errands.

My cousin’s breast cancer hasn’t metastisized. Though the tumor is 6cm (ladies, please do self exams and go to the doctor if you find something…it was pea-sized one year ago). Chemo starts within two weeks. I liked her doctor.
I got a flat tire, a chunk of metal.
I should be writing work stuff, not blog posts, but I am waiting for my tire to be fixed.
Is it Friday yet?

doctor's orders
Well, fixing her toenail cost $125 less than I figured it would, and $375 more than I wish it did. Slight sedation and pain meds, clip the nail to the quick, clean and bandage, and pills for the road. As bonus, I get to change doggie foot bandages every three days and stuff antibiotics and pain meds down her gullet for a couple of weeks, and I get to try to keep the bandage dry during a possibly...
Of course it was naive of me to think that my crack addict cousin would stop being a crack addict because she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer. Of course it was. What vortex hell have I let myself get yanked into?
