giddy up
For work yesterday, I met up with our geotech and the client for a site visit. We are planning geotech borings for the purpose of designing a creek crossing of a pipeline alignment. I was walking along the wooded creek bank, looking for hidden remnants of an abandoned bridge abutment (where did it go?). As I rounded a bend, carefully placing my feet on firm ground but primarily looking at the...

STORY: James Franco Unable To Understand Why Ryan...

by GirlDetective
NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT—Hollywood star and ridiculously accomplished renaissance man, James Franco, expressed confusion this Wednesday as to why his famous peer, actor Ryan Gosling, was the subject of an increasingly absurd internet meme that relies on images of Gosling paired with academically inclined pick-up lines.
“It just doesn’t make sense,” said the...
just some things
I’m on BART headed into a meeting to talk about our firm’s community benefits efforts.
I woke up to the sound of leaf blowers and with a raging headache. No euphemisms, unfortunately.
I’m behind on 3 biggish things at work. Not including year-end invoicing. Give me all the revenues. And more time.
The “checking it twice” part of the list using has me twitchy. How do we do Christmases that are...

filed under: yet another pet peeve
I have received email “cards” from multiple companies listing the charitable donations they made this year. I do not like these. The purpose of giving is not to brag shamelessly to your clients in the “spirit of giving”. I find it ticky tacky, yes I do.

The flute is a cedar “pocket flute”, which is a smaller version of a fahncy, full-sized Native American flute that I got at a street fair in Santa Cruz forever ago. It’s handbuilt by High Spirit Flutes and perfectly in tune. I got it for Carter for his...

sometimes people on the street annoy me
I never stop in the middle of the sidewalk. If I need to stop in the middle of the sidewalk, I “merge” to an area that is not in the middle of the sideWALK.
When people sneeze or cough while walking toward me and they don’t cover their mouth, I am certain that I am going to catch their bird flus. Didn’t everyone learn to cover their mouths in kindergarten? Do not give me...

Record store? A real one? We no longer have real record stores. They’re poor imitations crossed with clothing & accessory bazaars that rarely stock vinyl. I still miss Saturday afternoons flipping through LPs.
Midtown Sacramento has a good one, The Beat. At least half the floor is space records, new and old....
Nutcracker in Sac was lovely lovely. Set design was delightful, the dancers were so good. Some really magical, joyful stuff. Piccolos and timpani, yum. Good for the soul.
We have deduced that 8 needs to make a diorama-like thing of a downtown San Carlos local business. We have the deadline and the dimensions. This means a trip to the craft store. I wonder if I can get the child to make himself a...

that was salad was mediocre minus.
watching a tunnel engineer have to throw his weight behind one alignment in absence of data is a special kind of schadenfreude.
the collective amount of wisdom on a single conference call may be the thing that causes supernova explosions in far away galaxies.
galaxies, whoa.
